In the years proceeding the Second Vatican Council, Church leaders looked carefully at the current state of our initiation rite. In the light of this long and rather complicated history, they decided that some changes in emphasis should be made to better adapt these sacraments to pastoral needs of the contemporary church. Following the discussions of these matters at the Council, the Church published the document on the "Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults".
R.C.I.A. restores the order of Baptism-Confirmation-Eucharist and emphasizes the inerconnection of these three sacraments. These rites are neither seperate or static: they are part of an on-going process of conversion.
R.C.I.A. speaks of our faith journey and does not end at Baptism, First Communion or Confirmation, but continues through our Christian life. For those who join the R.C.I.A. program, it is a period of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment and formation.
